How to Check if a Remote Control Sensor is Working?

Hello everyone, this is a little bit of a funny testing procedure you should know related to your original remote control or universal replacement remote control. Yes, learn how to test remote control sensor is working or not in your infrared LED-based remotes.

Have your remote control is not working even after you replaced the battery assuming that was a problem. The next thing you can check with your remote control is whether it is working or not. This is a simple home remedy I am going to share with you here Via this post.

Obviously, this is a very simple method and anyone can be able to check if your remote control sensor is fine for working. In some remote control, you can clearly see that the sensor is blinking, but in some other remotes you can’t see the sensor blinking. When the sensor is working fine, you can confirm that there is no issue with the sensor.

How to test remote control sensor is working or not

  • Turn on your smartphone camera
  • place your remote control infrared LED end towards the camera
  • Now press any key on the remote control
  • when Infrared LED blinking indicates that the sensor is working fine
  • Else your remote sensor is not working

This is the same method where you can check all the keys or buttons in your remote control are working or not. since you cannot identify the IR message to the receiver, just blink the LED sensor when you press any key on the remote.

Twice check – Exceptional case

Here is an exceptional case I am going to talk about. There are some smartphone cameras that did not detect the infrared sending from a remote control. In such cases, if you are still believing that the IR sensor is working, you can check with the same procedures on any other device camera.

This is working fine with any other digital camera. so you can check using a digital camera too to check whether the IR sensor of the remote control is working or not.

Note:- There are Non-IR remote controls are available in the market. This method is only applicable to IR LED sensor remote and universal remote controls.

Pre-checks when using Camera detection method of IR LED check-up

You need to ensure that both batteries installed on the remote have a charge on them to work with the remote control. If the battery charge is nothing or not enough, you cannot check using the method.

If possible, remove all the dust particles around the circuit board and the LED IR emitter using an eraser or a thin brush. These factors may cause not working issues of IR LED sensors.

Conclusion

We have to take care of our remote control getting broken. If it falls down, it may cause the sensor to get broken. I have written a detailed post on how to protect remote control from breaking in the previous posts. You can simply check the infrared LED as I described above. This method is most commonly used by users. If you have any other tips, you can share them here in our comment box.
