RCA Universal remote is one of the best budget-friendly third-party remotes available in the market. You can use it with TVs, DVD players, satellite boxes, streaming players, etc. The great compatibility feature allows you to program the remote with multiple devices at your home. Thus you can remove the cluster of remotes from the table, making your entertainment room clean and neat.
Get the RCA universal remote codes list and programming instructions here. It’s easy to find the best working 3, 4, and 5-digit codes. You can either get the code from the user manual that came with the remote or retrieve it from this official website.
You need to apply the codes based on the remote’s revision number. Once you get the revision number (find it from the remote itself or the user manual), find the most appropriate code and apply it to program the RCA universal remote. Open the battery compartment of the remote control, then check the label to see the revision number.
Before proceeding with the pairing instructions, make sure the remote is ready with the batteries having sufficient charge on them. The device keys on the top such as TV, DVD-BLURAY, SAT-CBL, and STRM allow you to program it for what type of device you are syncing the remote with.
How to program RCA Universal Remote?
- Press and hold the device key (TV/DVD/SAT) that you want to program for.
- The POWER button will illuminate at the top
- Keep holding the device key and enter the first code (4/5 Digits) for your brand
- Continue holding the DEVICE key
- If the POWER button is lit, you have entered the right code
- When the POWER button blinks 4 times, the input code is incorrect, re-enter the code
- Once you get a signal as the POWER button is lit, release the DEVICE key

If not all the functions working properly, re-program with another code from the list.
Pairing the RCA remote revision numbers R271U1 and R271U2
The programming method is a little bit different if you are using the remotes with revision numbers R271U1, and R271U2.
Press and hold down the TV button until the POWER button illuminates. Then release the TV (DEVICE) button. Enter the 4 or 5-digit code for your device brand Via number keys. If the POWER button light is turned OFF, the code you entered is correct. If the POWER button blinks TWO times and remains illuminated, you have entered the incorrect code.
Programming RCA remote without code
If you can’t find the code for your device, you can program the remote without code what we call the ‘automatic code search’ method. In this method, your remote control will scan through the code database and set the appropriate one for your device.
Take an example of programming for a TV.
- Turn on your TV, and point the remote to it
- Press and hold the TV button. The POWER LED light will light, and don’t release the TV button
- Keep pressing the Power button as well. The Red light on the power button will turn off and turn back on in a few seconds. Now you can release both buttons.
- Press the PLAY button every 5 seconds until your TV turns OFF
- The red light will blink in five seconds
- Once your TV Turns off, press the REVERSE button every 3 Seconds.
- When your TV turns back On, immediately press the STOP button to save the code.
Now test the remote with your device.
How to program RCA remote with code search button
Some old model remotes have a dedicated CODE SEARCH button that helps you search for the most favorable code for your device. Let’s see how to use it.
- Turn on your device and point the remote to it
- Press and hold the CODE SEARCH button until the top LED turns ON
- Then Press the Device key (Ex, TV if programming for TV). The indicator light will blink once and stay lit.
- Press the Power key now and observe the indicator light. Allow it to blink, indicating that the remote is in the process of testing codes.
- If the blinking does not happen automatically, manually press the Power key at intervals of 2-3 seconds.
- Your device will turn off once it finds the right code. After it turns off, press the Enter key to save and register the code.
